At nVent, we believe that safer systems ensure a more secure world. We connect and protect our customers with inventive electrical solutions. This data privacy statement (“Privacy Statement”) reflects the value we place on earning and keeping the trust of our customers, business partners, and others who share their personal data with us. Below we describe the personal data nVent may collect about you, how we may use this data, and other related information that is important for you to know.

WHO WE ARE AND HOW THIS STATEMENT APPLIES TO YOU

This statement applies to personal data nVent may collect about you.

For the purposes of this Privacy Statement, “nVent” refers to the subsidiary or affiliate of nVent Electric plc that is responsible for the processing of your personal data, which is usually the entity that originally obtains your personal data and decides the purpose for which (i.e. why) personal data is processed (also referred to as data controller). 

This Privacy Statement does not apply where we process personal data as a ‘data processor’, which is where we process personal data on behalf of a customer. Where nVent is a data processor, we are not responsible for the privacy practices of our customers, which may differ from those described in this Privacy Statement. In these circumstances the customer should be contacted directly for further details of how your personal data is handled.

Please be aware that we are a global organization with offices in multiple locations around the world. To help you to determine which specific nVent entity is responsible for the processing of your personal data, you can ask your nVent business contact, consult the list of our locations on the nVent public website (www.nVent.com) or contact us using the methods provided in the Contact Us section.

This Statement applies to the personal data, i.e. any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual or as related terms are defined under applicable law that we process when you use our websites or mobile applications including the chat functionalities and contact forms  (“Online Interfaces”), and when you otherwise interact with us as described in more detail below. Unless you are in a jurisdiction where this is not permitted, your use of our Online Interfaces is subject to our Terms of Use.

 

TYPES OF PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT

nVent collects personal data that is relevant, adequate, and not excessive for its purpose. This includes contact, communication, payment, demographic, marketing, website-related data,  and other types of personal data relevant to the purpose for which it is collected.

These are the types of personal data that we may collect or create about you:

  • Contact data, such as name, title, company name, phone number, mailing address, and e-mail address
  • Communication data, such as orders, questions, feedback, call and video recordings, transcriptions, email exchanges, text details, and chat contents and logs
  • Demographic data, such as language, age, gender, date of birth, country, professional associations, and registration numbers
  • Marketing preferences, such as e-mail subscription and frequency preferences
  • Payment and transaction data, such as purchase and order history, payment information, account information or tax identification number
  • Device and technical information such as browser and device type, IP address, operating system, device identifier, internet service provider
  • Online interactions in connection with our Online Interfaces (including features on our site, like our chat feature and the video content that we make available), such as referring websites, pages visited, links or buttons clicked, information about your preferences, including preferred methods of communication and product types in which you are interested
  • Social media information, such as social media name, profile, and any direct messages exchanged
  • Log-in information, including, if applicable, social media account information for login purposes
  • Product related data such as product use and application data

nVent will generally not collect sensitive personal data unless allowed by law or with your affirmative consent. nVent accepts your explicit consent to use this data in the ways described in this Privacy Statement or at the point where you disclose the data.

 

HOW WE COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We may collect, create, and observe personal data about you from a variety of sources, including directly from you, from technology such as cookies, and from third parties.

  • Directly From You. We may collect personal data directly from you through a variety of sources. This includes telephone, email, our Online Interfaces, social media, and online advertisements. Specifically, we may collect personal data during the initiation or execution of business relationships, events or tradeshows, newsletter subscriptions, surveys, rebate submissions, event or online service registrations, and when you contact us or utilize our website tools.
  • Through Automated Means. We may collect personal data about you through automated technologies like cookies, capturing device and browser information (e.g., device type, IP address, operating system), general location, page views, timestamps, URLs, language, and clickstream data. We also may track interactions with our online interfaces, advertisements, and promotions, including content viewed or downloaded, features used, and links clicked.   • From Business Partners and other Third Parties.  nVent may collect personal data about you from other publicly or commercially available sources, such as our business partners, suppliers, vendors, and other third-party sources (e.g., publicly available information, public databases and social media platforms) which we use for our business purposes (for example, in order to better serve you with content or promotions). 

     

HOW WE USE YOUR PERSONAL DATA

nVent may use your personal data to serve you, improve our services, and fulfill the purpose for which you gave us your personal data, such as to carry out a transaction, communicate with you, and run our business operations.

How we use your personal data may include:  

  • Carrying out transactions you have requested directly from us or through our distributors and sales channels, such as processing orders, registering products, handling warranty claims, training on product use, and addressing customer service requests
  • Communicating with you about your account, our relationship, and informing you of products or services you may be interested in, including sending surveys about your use of our products and services
  • Improving our products, services, and the usability of our Online Interfaces by learning about your interactions and making navigation easier
  • Detecting, preventing, and responding to fraud, intellectual property infringement, contract violations, adverse events, health and safety incidents, legal violations, or misuse of our services
  • Protecting rights, property, health, safety, or welfare of nVent, you, or others
  • Complying with legal requirements, internal policies, court orders, establishing, exercising, or defending legal claims, and legal processes, including audit, security, data retention, trade compliance, vendor and third-party management
  • Evaluating or conducting business changes like mergers, divestitures, restructurings, or asset sales, where personal data may be transferred, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding
  • Responding to or processing job applications or inquiries as outlined in our recruitment privacy notice.
  • nVent products provided by your organization: We provide many of our products and services to organizations and businesses. If your organization provides you with access to one of our products or services, your use of the products or services will be subject to the terms and policies of your organization. Our processing of your personal data in connection with that product or service will be governed by a contract between nVent and your organization. nVent may anonymize, aggregate or de-identify any of the information we collect from you and, where permitted by applicable law, use it for any purpose, including for research, product-development, and service and product quality review purposes. Such information will not identify you individually, and we will maintain and use the information in deidentified form and will not attempt to reidentify the information. 

nVent does not make decisions about you that are solely based on automated processing, including profiling, without meaningful human involvement. All final decisions affecting you are made by human beings.

 

BASIS FOR PROCESSING YOUR PERSONAL DATA

nVent relies on several legal bases for processing your personal data depending on the circumstances. Usually these are your consent, our legitimate interests, contractual obligations, or as required by law.

nVent has a lawful basis for each of the uses of your personal data. Specifically, we process your personal data under the following bases:

  • Consent. In some cases, nVent will only process your personal data after you have granted your prior consent. Subject to this Privacy Statement or the consent statement at the point of collection of the consent, these are for example signing up for news about nVent products, services, training, or other events; creating user profiles; registering for an event or training.    Please note that we often rely on other legal bases, such as legitimate interest or contract execution, where consent is not needed.
  • Legitimate Interests. Where permissible under applicable law, we process your personal data as necessary for our legitimate interests such as facilitating communication, improving our Online Interfaces by reviewing how you use our site and issues you may encounter while using our Online Interfaces; promoting our business by using your email or other contact information to communicate with you directly or through our distributors and sales channels; safeguarding our IT infrastructure and intellectual property by logging your IP address for intrusion detection purposes, detect and prevent fraud and other crimes; checking credit and perform risk assessments; and to developing or enhancing our product and services. Our legitimate interests are balanced against your rights and freedoms and we do not process your personal data if your rights and freedoms are outweighed by our processing.
  • To Fulfill Our Obligations to You Under Our Contract. We process your personal data in order to fulfill our contractual obligations, delivering the products and services you request.
  • As Required by Law. We may also process your personal data when we are required or permitted to by law; to comply with government inspection, audits, and other valid requests from government or other public authorities; to respond to legal process such as subpoenas; protect our interests, defend litigation, and manage legal claims.

 

HOW WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL DATA

nVent may share your personal data with other nVent entities, brands, divisions, and subsidiaries and select third parties in accordance with applicable law.

We may disclose your personal data to the following recipients and for the purposes described below.  In each case, we will take appropriate steps (including obtaining your consent where required by applicable law) to protect your personal data. The recipients of your personal data may be located outside of the country in which you reside.

  • nVent group companies. nVent may share your personal data with other nVent entities, brands, divisions, and subsidiaries to serve you, including for the activities listed above, any applicable Specific Privacy Notices, and all applicable laws.
  • Service Providers. We may share your personal data with service providers that carry out activities at our direction or which are otherwise involved in the fulfillment or enablement of transactions. These activities could include any of the processing activities that nVent carries out as described in the above sections, ‘HOW WE COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL DATA’ and ‘HOW WE USE YOUR PERSONAL DATA.’ These recipients are contractually obliged to keep personal data protected and to limit its use only to the purposes for which your data was provided.
  • Distributors, sales channels and other trusted business partners. We may share your personal data with third parties that distribute our products and other trusted business partners for purposes that include allowing those third parties to send marketing communications to you. Such sharing of personal data for marketing purposes will be performed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Disclosures in connection with acquisitions or divestitures. Circumstances may arise where for strategic or other business reasons nVent decides to sell, buy, divest, merge or otherwise reorganize businesses in some countries. We may disclose information we maintain about you to the extent reasonably necessary to proceed with the negotiation or completion of a merger, acquisition, divestiture or sale of all or a portion of nVent’s assets with potential or prospective buyers, sellers, lenders and their respective affiliates, agents, advisers and representatives.
  • For legal reasons. We may share your personal data with a recipient when it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, statute, rule, regulation, or professional standard, or to respond to a subpoena, search warrant, or other legal request; and to detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, intellectual property infringement, violation of our contracts or agreements, violation of law, or other misuse of nVent services;

 

HOW WE RETAIN YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We will keep your personal data for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Privacy Statement unless a longer retention period is permitted by law.

How long we retain your personal data depends on the purpose for which it was obtained and its nature. We retain your personal data as long as necessary to provide requested products or fulfill the purpose for which it was collected. Typically, this aligns with the duration of any contractual relationship or other legitimate business needs, such as resolving disputes, complying with legal obligations, and enforcing agreements. Retention periods may vary based on the category of information and are determined by legal and operational requirements. SECURITY OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA

The security of your personal data is important to us. nVent has put in place adequate technical and organizational safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your personal data.

We protect your personal data against unauthorized access, use or disclosure, using security technologies and procedures, such as encryption and access controls and limitations.

The safety and security of your personal data also depends on you. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password for access to certain parts of our Online Interfaces, keep it confidential and do not share it.

While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its security during internet transmission, which is at your own risk. We are not responsible for any circumvention of privacy settings or security measures on our Online Interfaces.

 

YOUR RIGHTS REGARDING YOUR PERSONAL DATA

Applicable data protection laws may provide you with certain rights regarding our processing of your personal data. Specifically, these laws may provide you the right to access and update your personal data, restrict its processing, withdraw consent to our processing of your personal data (when applicable), and request erasure. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with supervisory authorities if you believe your rights have been violated.

Depending on your location and subject to local data protection laws, you may have certain rights relating to your personal data. These rights may include: 

  • A right for you to access your personal data held by us;
  • A right to request that we rectify, restrict, erase, anonymize or delete the personal data held or processed by us;
  • A right to request data portability concerning personal data, which you actively provided;
  • A right to object to the processing of your personal data, including a right to opt-out or object to direct marketing; and
  • A right to withdraw your consent, if we are relying on your consent to process your personal data. Please note that withdrawal of your consent does not retroactively invalidate any prior processing activities that were conducted based on your previous consent.

How You May Exercise Your Rights. You may exercise any of the above rights by contacting us at privacy[at]nvent[dot]com. We may ask you for additional information to verify your identity. We reserve the right to limit or deny your request if you have failed to provide sufficient information to verify your identity or to satisfy our legal and business requirements.

Complaints. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the applicable data protection authority in the country you live or work in. However, before doing so, we ask you to contact us directly to give us an opportunity to work directly with you to resolve any concerns about your privacy.

 

WHERE WE PROCESS PERSONAL DATA

In order to provide our Online Interfaces, products and services to you, we may send and store your personal data outside the country where you reside or are located. When this occurs, we use appropriate safeguards permitted under applicable data protection law to protect your personal data.

We are a global organization with offices in multiple locations around the world. This means we may transfer your personal data to nVent in the United States, to any nVent entity worldwide, or to third parties and business partners who are located in various countries around the world. The global nature of our organization means your personal data may be sent to countries in which standards of privacy protection differ from the standards of your country of residence. We have implemented measures to safeguard your personal data should it be transferred to another country, such as data protection agreements that include, where applicable, Standard Contractual Clauses adopted by the respective jurisdiction.

 

CHILDREN'S INFORMATION

Our Online Interfaces are not directed at children.  

nVent understands the importance of protecting the privacy of children especially in an online environment. Our services are intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. They are prohibited from using our Online Interfaces. If we discover data from a child under 16, we will delete it. If you suspect we have such information, please contact us at privacy[at]nvent[dot]com or through the contact information below.

 

HOW WE CHANGE AND UPDATE THIS PRIVACY STATEMENT

We may update our Privacy Statement at any time. When we do, we will publish the current version on nVent.com. If we make material changes to how we treat your  personal data, we will notify you by email and/or through a website notice.

We may update this Privacy Statement at any time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this Statement. If we make any material changes, we will notify you by means of a notice on this page and/or by email. Please check periodically to ensure that you have reviewed the most current notice.
