Grounding Technologies for Optimal Electrical Safety

According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International, contact with electricity is one of the leading causes of fatalities in the workplace, accounting for 5.6% of all workplace fatalities.
Grounding and bonding plays a critical role improving electrical safety and protecting systems, processes, equipment and personnel.

Grounding

Electrical grounding establishes a direct connection between an electrical system and the earth. Grounding serves as a reference point for voltage levels, providing a stable voltage level and helps safely redirect excess electrical energy into the ground. Grounding is necessary for several reasons including protection against electrical shock, safety during faults, stabilized voltage levels, facilitated overcurrent protection and lightning protection.

Bonding

Electrical bonding is the process of connecting all metallic and conductive parts of an electrical system to establish a uniform electrical potential. Bonding has an important role in an electrical system. It prevents voltage differences by creating an equipotential plane, facilitates overcurrent protection, provides fire and damage mitigation and system integrity.

It is crucial to establish proper grounding and bonding systems. There are several steps engineers can take to protect your systems and personnel. These include following the National Electrical Code or local electrical codes, using appropriate materials and techniques and regularly inspecting and maintaining grounding and bonding systems.

nVent is recognized as a leading provider of grounding and bonding solutions, offering an extensive range of products and services for diverse electrical systems.
